WHAT IS CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM?
See our post about strawberry ice cream for a more detailed explanation on the different types of frozen desserts incorporating air. Depending on the type of chocolate used you could have anywhere from a dark to milk to a white chocolate ice cream! If you’re not sure which you prefer, check out our Food Fight!!! comparison. Chocolate is one of those amazing ingredients so complex that man isn’t able to synthesize it (like honey).
SUGGESTIONS WHEN MAKING CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM
- Dutch or Regular Cocoa?
Chocolate ice cream is a fan favorite and the darker the better. We use ultra dutched (super dark) cocoa powder and regular Dutch Process cocoa powder for a super chocolatey ice cream. We also don’t use eggs so the flavor you get is pure chocolate and cream.
- What can I add in?
A couple of great additions to this ice cream is salt flakes such as Maldon’s Sea Salt sprinkled on lightly before serving or bits of soft caramel–just cut up some caramel candies into 1/4 inch pieces and add to the mixture in the ice cream freezer. Better yet–add both!
